Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Awareness Across the Prairies

The Electric Vehicle Association of Alberta (EVAA) is proud to announce the EV Prairies Action & Leadership (EV PAL). A project funded by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) through the Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative (ZEVAI) and in partnership with communities across Alberta, including the Cities of Calgary, Edmonton and Grande Prairie.

The initiative will gather information and best practices from across Canada, and provide reliable and locally-relevant information using a variety of education and awareness-building tools to complement existing work. EVAA will also be identifying and leading a coordinated effort to convene key stakeholders through the development of a Prairie ZEV Consortium – a group of ZEV stakeholders across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Background

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is investing  $299,328 in this project  to undertake zero-emission vehicle awareness and education projects across the prairies. Federal funding for this project was provided through ZEVAI, which supports outreach, education and capacity-building activities, ultimately boosting the widespread adoption of ZEVs among personal vehicle owners, fleet owners, communities, businesses and Indigenous peoples.

In Alberta, EVAA is well positioned to be the go-to trusted source of electric vehicle information and local convenor. Since 2014, EVAA has developed deep roots, and gained respect across ZEV stakeholders, building a membership of over 110 members, including local electric utilities.

The initiative will be delivered in partnership with RFS Energy Consulting and Research Group Inc. – a firm that brings people together to propel planning, research and climate change policy into the marketplace.

Quotes

“Zero-emission vehicles are helping Canadians to reduce emissions and save money on fuel while creating good jobs throughout the supply chain. Investing in zero-emission vehicles will put more Canadians in the driver’s seat on the road to a net-zero future and help achieve our climate goals.”  The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson

Minister of Natural Resources

“With this funding powering our initiatives, EVAA is set to accelerate the journey towards increased adoption of electric vehicles across Alberta and the Prairies. Our mission is not a short trip, but a long-range plan towards a greener, cleaner future. EVAA believes that the road to wide-scale adoption of EVs is paved with comprehensive understanding and confidence in this transformative technology. As we plug into our communities, we are excited to spark the shift in transportation modes, helping to charge forward into a new era of sustainable mobility.”
